Marlin fishing continues!
After wednesday's catch, we were really enthusiastic about going fishing today, especially as we didn't have the chance to go yesterday; and just as we thought, marlin season has began here in Lanzarote, as we've had two strikes today, and we know that other boats also had some.
The first one was s…
First Blue Marlin of the season!
This year took longer than last year, but finally today we caught the 1st blue marlin of the season. It was almost three o'clock and we were approaching the harbour of Puerto del Carmen when all of a sudden one of the 80lb reels began screaming. We soon realised it was a Blue Marlin, not only had we…
Bottom fishing in Lanzarote
This december has seen the Katfish fishing the biggest amberjack of the last 10 years. An incredible catch of more than 40 kilos! Funnily enough we began the day with another amberjack of 14 kilos, but everyone was amazed at the size of the second one.
In early december we also had a great 30 kilo
Summer has finally arrived to Lanzarote
Fishing in June has been quite better than previous months, with our boat Margarita Segundo catching the very first blue marlin of the season in Lanzarote. There has only been another marlin catch since then, by a private boat last week, but surely marlin catches will be more frequent in July.
In th…
Ladies also fish!
The last two trips on the Katfish have been quite entertaining, but not only for the fish caught, but due to the fact that the best catches on both days where caught by ladies! On wednesday it was a lovely polish(?) girl that caught a beautiful white trevally. Plenty of black sea bream, two more whi…
Trolling for Albacore
Even though winter has not been very good overal for big game fishing, this week we've began to see some signs that indicate that things could change soon. Plenty of dolphin, pilot whales, lots of sardine and bird activity have been very encouraging, and even though we've only been out twice on the
A Beautiful Bonito
These last few days there has not been any great catches. We are concentrating more on bottom fishing on the Katfish as trolling as not been very successfull lately. Even so, last wednesday we had a beautiful atlantic bonito of over four kilo and two more of three and thwo and a half kilo. The other…
Manta day
Monday was another entertaining day on the Katfish. We began with the usual small fish (red bream, black sea bream..), but all of a sudden a german tourist was hooked with something big on one of the larger rods. We soon found out it was a manta ray of about 50 kilos that took a good 30 minute fight…
Fishing in the rain..
Even though we've been having great weather since the begining of the year, yesterday was particularly cold and rainy, something quite unusual for Lanzarote, but even so, we had a good day's fishing on the Katfish.
We didn't have a single bite while trolling to our anchoring spot, but once there we …
Atlantic Bonito for Xmas..
Traditionally Christmas in the Canary Islands begins the friday right before Christmas' eve, as it's usually in that weekend that things begin to get busier over here with plenty of tourists arriving in the islands. This year looks quieter than any other, but friday 19th was busy enough out there in…
Great Bottom Fishing and even better Trolling
This last week, fishing in Lanzarote has improved quite a lot. Not so much on the Margarita, as we tried a couple of days to go out searching for marlin with no luck; but definitelly on the Katfish where both bottom fishing and coastal trolling have been very entertaining.
Wednesday, for instance, w…
It's Oh So Quiet (No more wahoo)
Wahoo season seems to have taken a break. Fishing it's not what it used to be two weeks ago, and last week was quite poor on the Katfish, with plenty of atlantic bonito and skipjack tuna, but nothing bigger than that.
Nevertheless, yesterday we had a pretty good fight with a forty kilo manta ray (th…
4 months of this fishing website
This week this website/blog became four months old, and to cellebrate we caught another wahoo of 25kilos. Truth being said, it's not so busy now as it was these past months; demand has dropped, and we're only going out twice or thrice on each boat, so that's the main reason we're not posting that mu…
Wahoo fishing in Lanzarote
Last wednesday it was a great day of fishing. Oddly enough, this week the two skippers of both Margarita Segundo and Katfish have been fishing together as our crew is out on a course in the fishing school here in Lanzarote. The week started with no big catches but being quite entertaining, however w…
Fishing Barracudas
Monday on the Katfish did not see us fishing any big catch, but it was very entertaining nevertheless. We managed to fish three nice barracudas, a white trevally and plenty of black bream. Funnily enough the biggest of the barracudas (4k) was caught by a ten year old kid that had a really great time…
Great Manta fight
After a disasterous monday, yesterday was once again a great day of fishing on the Katfish. We started off the day with an Atlantic Bonito while trolling, and two more once anchored, as well as a three kilo barracuda using live bait. A bit later we had one of the most incredible fights in a long tim…
A great week's fishing
The week in the Katfish ended just as it begun, with great fishing. Soon after we anchored we had plenty of small fish and a 5 kilo stingray. Later we caught a barracuda of over two kilousing live bait, and while we were trolling back to the harbour, the biggest catch of the week, a 18 kilo wahoo. H…
It's so good to fish in Lanzarote!
After a great start of the week we were quite optimistic as to having a good week of fishing, but yesterday (the second day the Katfish has been out this week) exceeded our best expectations. We began the day trolling with no luck to our anchoring spot; however, soon after we got there, we had a bit…
Great Snapper
Las week was quite poor on the Katfish with an atlantic bonito of four kilos as our biggest catch of the week. However this week could not begin better. Yesterday we caught an impressive spapper of almost seven kilo caught with live bait (a black sea bream) at 30 metres depth. Not only that, as we a…
Great Wahoo
Yesterday on the Katfish we had a great day of fishing. The main catch was a magnificent wahoo of more than 30 kilos caught by a very nice guy from London (arsenal supporter) after a great 35 minute fight. Later on, we caught a couple of barracudas of about three kilo each, and an atlantic bonito of…
