Trolling for Albacore
By Lanzarote Fishing | January 31, 2009
Even though winter has not been very good overal for big game fishing, this week we’ve began to see some signs that indicate that things could change soon. Plenty of dolphin, pilot whales, lots of sardine and bird activity have been very encouraging, and even though we’ve only been out twice on the Margarita this week and catches have been scarce, we knew our luck may change soon.
And so, yesterday on the Katfish, after a couple of hours of unsuccessful bottom fishing (mainly due to strong winds and rain), we decided to spend the rest of the day trolling for bigger fish. After an hour, we arrived to the area were we had seen the signals on the Margarita on previous days, and soon after we were hooked and the battle began. Even though it was a intense fight, it didn’t take very long to gaff a fabulous Albacore of 12 kilo. We kept trolling looking for more, but we only managed to catch two beautiful skipjack tunas.
Looking forward to next week.
